Mid Semester Update

With the first half of the Study Period now complete, let’s take a moment to reflect on our resident highlights!

2023 at Lincoln College has commenced with a fun and dynamic mix of new and returning students from all over. This year, a third of our student body belongs to the health science, health professions, nursing, and medicine cohorts and we have seen a growth in music and arts students. We love the diversity of individuals and degrees represented at the College this year and can’t wait to see our community evolve through events over the year.

Social Wrap Up

Led by 2023 Club President, Sophie Boston, our College Club has really risen above this year to deliver some knock-out social experiences for Linolnites new and returning. Welcome Week kicked off with barnyard night and saw the cafe crawl, president pres, and beach day all well attended. The week wrapped up with some glow party fun and the whole college photo.

So far this semester we have also enjoyed equity panels, House Cup dodgeball, and some Easter Egg hunting fun (thank you to our Residential Advisor Team!).

Lincoln’s Sporting Wrapped

Sports Secretaries, Beccy MacDonald and Jaiden Jude have done a stellar job coordinating the Stags for the 2023 SAAUCC Sports competition. Please read on for their wrap-up so far!

The calendar started off with the SAAUCC tennis competition in March. Everyone was very excited to support the team, whether getting their face painted in blue and yellow zinc, holding up some funny signs, or even losing their voices from cheering. It was so exciting to see all Lincolnites so involved and supportive of our sporting endeavors. One of the highlights of the competition was the men’s doubles, in which Lachlan Coombe and Joey Haenen won three out of four of their games.

It was great to see our girls double, Emma Price and Chloe Little, giving it their all in every game. All the other team members did a fantastic job, battling through the rain!

Extra special mention goes to Zachary Liu who won all his games and rallied his way to victory against St Marks in straight sets.

With only two weeks to recover, Linoln was back at it for the swimming. The swimming team raced well, coming 3rd in both the men’s and women’s 50m breaststroke and 3rd in the women’s 4×50 medley relay. One of the high points was Sports Sec Beccy breaking the 50m backstroke record with a time of 33.13 seconds, set previously by St Ann’s College in 2016.

Lincoln gave their all at the netball comp to wind up the term. The teams had been training hard and showed determination and skill displayed in their games. The girls gave their all in the 3rd vs 4th final and finished in 4th position.

Unfortunately, our boys very, very narrowly missed out on the chance to play in the 1st vs 2nd final against Aquinas. They fought hard in the final though, beating Marks and placing third overall.

So far Lincoln Sports has been very successful, especially with such amazing support from the spectators, and we cannot wait to see how the rest of the year turns out!

Cheers, all,

Your Sports Secs; Beccy MacDonald and Jaiden Jude
