Professor Lucy Montgomery

Professor Lucy Montgomery is the co-lead of the Curtin Open Knowledge Initiative: a major strategic research project exploring how big data can help universities to understand their performance as Open Knowledge Institutions. The COKI project is combining critical Humanities perspectives with big data and cloud computing approaches to capturing and exploring the digital traces of scholarly communication, open access, diversity and inclusion. The COKI database draws on well over 12 trillion items. Her most recent, collaboratively authored, book Open Knowledge Institutions: Reinventing Universities was published by MIT Press in 2021. She has an international reputation as an expert consultant in the field of open access scholarly publishing and is regularly invited to participate in internationally funded research projects and events in this capacity. Her 56 publications include 2 books; 17 journal articles; 7 book chapters; and 5 major commissioned reports.
