Making waves in the world of visual effects
A 2023 graduate from Lincoln College, Jock began his film and television studies at the University of South Australia in 2022. His dedication and talent have quickly set him apart, securing a role at Rising Sun Pictures (RSP) just three weeks before completing his degree—a seamless transition from student to industry professional.
Starting as a Lighting Artist at RSP, Jock has wasted no time expanding his skills and knowledge. He initially progressed into Look Development, where he learned to texture and shade 3D assets for production, before moving into the Effects department, where he now creates dynamic digital effects for major films and series. His first industry credit came early with his work on A Complete Unknown, the highly anticipated Bob Dylan biopic.
For Jock, visual effects are not just about technology—they’re about storytelling.
“I enjoy the process of building something that helps tell a story. In Lighting, I got the chance to bring life to computer-generated environments. In Look Development, I learned how to texture and shade 3D assets for production. Now, in Effects, I get to simulate effects that further the story.”
Jock’s rapid success is a testament to his commitment to continuous learning. His career is off to an exciting start, and he is already contributing to the visual artistry that brings cinematic stories to life.
His advice to current students and aspiring artists? Stay adaptable and open to learning from others.
“When learning and working at RSP, I’ve been exposed to a diverse group of talented people. There is always someone who knows more than you—thankfully.”
With his passion for storytelling and commitment to innovation, Jock has recently returned to Lincoln College to share some of his inspiration as a sessional tutor for the current creative arts students, specifically in Visual Effects.
